With bills piling up, credit cards maxed out, and, so far, no sign of severance pay, the former employees of the New Glasgow Greco are feeling the impact.

It was a text from the former owner of the New Glasgow Greco, Geoff Martin, telling LeBlanc that she and the other staff were now out of a job. “In my household, me and my daughter both got laid off. She doesn't qualify for EI, so she has only her baby cheques to pay bills,” she said. “I think a lot of us probably would have been accepting of it if we had gotten a little bit of notice because it's Pictou County, and a lot of businesses close. A lot of things aren't soaring right now as far as profit goes. So, I think most of us would have an understanding had we been given the time to try to get things together with our lives for after the fact,” she added.

LeBlanc has since managed to get a job, but it’s only part-time. With the cut in hours and pay, she said she feels as though she’s been slapped in the face. The former owner of New Glasgow’s Greco Pizza, Geoff Martin, was reached for comment but did not get back to SaltWire before publication.
