Alice Springs leaders are calling for the outback town to be properly resourced ahead of the summer, when crime traditionally surges in the region.

An Emergency Warning has been issued for Tara, Kogan, Halliford, Wieambilla, Moonie, and Durong in Queensland. "They've said that they can't go home because they're not safe. Well, we need to make sure there is a facility for these kids."Blair McFarland, manager of the Central Australian Youth Link Up Service , said a crime spike was "inevitable" in the region over summer."People who live out bush in impoverished conditions are going to be gravitating to town to try and make the dole money … but also to try and get into some air conditioning.

"If service providers are getting paid to do a job, they need to do that job, or they should not be funded," he said.
