Alice Springs is back in the national spotlight as the town of around 26 thousand people sees a marked increase in crime and violence.
MPs in the Northern territory are calling for a reintroduction of alcohol bans as more than 200 children, with some as young as five, are roaming the streets late at night.
According to The Australian newspaper many of those kids are drinking alcohol, sometimes in the form of hand sanitiser diluted in soft drinks, or consuming deodorant, petrol or glue. It has been just over six months since the Stronger Futures laws lapsed meaning alcohol was suddenly legal for the first time in many Aboriginal town camps in 15 years.
