Siblings Kavi and Ila Giroux as well as Alexandra Bishop showed well at the national event

The recently held Canada-Wide Science Fair in Edmonton had some local flavour — and those representing Algoma did so in fine fashion.

Alexandra Bishop’s project “Exploring the Effectiveness of Multi-Purpose Toothpastes on the Oral Flora” captured top spot in the 2023 Algoma Rotary Science Fair and a Bronze Award of Excellence in the national competition's junior division as well as entrance scholarships to the University of Alberta and Western University.

In a unique instance for the Algoma region, a sibling duo submitted a project. Kavi and Ila Giroux captured a second place award at the Algoma Rotary Science Fair, with their project “Drone Assisted Orchard Assessment”. Ila is a Canada-Wide Science Fair veteran, having qualified for the national judging last year for her project entry of “Fire Cannot Brew Without O2.”
