Alberta Transporation has delayed the new rules until the province better informs the public about the changes.

The changes were set to come into effect Wednesday, but Alberta Transportation said they are being postponed for six months. “The changes are extensive and we require more time to communicate those changes and to make sure the public understands what they are, and the associated penalties,” the ministry said in a statement.

The province will launch a public education campaign before the rules are scheduled to take effect Sept. 1.
