The new limit comes after the UCP made amendments to the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act that came into effect in 2022.

“Spending limits enhance fairness and transparency for candidates, parties and third-party advertisers, and cover election expenses — everything from advertising and its production to fundraising events and activities to polling or research,” Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer Glen Resler said in a news release issued this week.Article content$53,100 for expenses within their own electoral riding, an increase from the previous limit of $50,000 in 2019.

In addition to their fundraising efforts, the UCP underwent a leadership campaign after former leader Jason Kenney stepped down last summer. That campaign saw candidates raise $3.8 million, however a UCP spokesman previously told Postmedia those funds would have gone to leadership campaigns and not into party coffers.
