But Kawchuk discovered that this part of the project was ultimately not the most burdensome.

This process led to each of the 14 tracks becoming unwieldy in terms of the sheer volume of digital data. Then the pandemic struck, which meant Kawchuk and his collaborator, Justin Gray, had the added headache of figuring out how to finish mixing and mastering the project remotely. The idea was to give the listener a 3-D sound experience, with the sound coming “from all around you and above you,” which is usually reserved for experiences in movie theatres.

Using pre-market technology certainly sounds cool and daring on paper but, in reality, it was time-consuming and required a lot of trial and error.
