The province had previously twinned the 240-kilometres stretch of Highway 63 south of Fort McMurray, a route notorious for a high number of fatal collisions.
Other new capital funds include $60 million over three years to replace the Vinca Bridge about 50 kilometres northeast of Edmonton, making it traversable for heavy-load trucks, and $75 million over three years for 23 assorted projects including the twinning of Highway 3 from the British Columbia border to Medicine Hat.Alberta is increasing its funding support for the province’s post-secondary institutions by 2.7 per cent for the upcoming fiscal year.
