Prime Minister Anthony Albanese attended a music gig in his electorate on Thursday where he promoted a Yes vote in the upcoming Voice to Parliament referendum. The Prime Minister joined Australian rock ‘n’ roll band the Hoodoo Gurus at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville for an evening of music and discussion. Yes23 co-chair Rachel Perkins and journalist Ray Martin took centre stage with Mr Albanese where they discussed the Indigenous Voice with locals. Mr Albanese told the audience the referendum is a moment where Australia can either be enlarged or “shrink in” on itself. “Fear is a powerful emotion, but no country was ever made greater or advanced on fear,” he said. “Countries go greater when they have hope and optimism.”

‘Level of disrespect’: Qantas Chair and CEO grilled in Senate inquirySenator Bridget McKenzie has slammed the Qantas CEO and Chair for their “level of disrespect” during a Senate inquiry after the airline representatives were grilled over their support for the ‘Yes’ campaign. The Qantas CEO couldn’t recollect the exact date that the company agreed to support the Voice to Parliament ‘Yes’ campaign. “This is quite incredible, this is the whole quid-pro-quo and no one came prepared to answer questions – what a surprise,” Ms McKenzie said. Albanese govt facing fierce backlash from communities over controversial wind projectOpposition Leader Peter Dutton is calling on the government to reopen the consultation process for the Hunter Coast Offshore Wind Project. The Opposition leader has spent Wednesday morning meeting local residents and business owners on the New South Wales mid-north coast who are against the wind farm project. The declared wind zone stretches 18,000 square kilometres from Swansea to Port Stephens and is at least 20 kilometres offshore. The Albanese government says it received almost 2,000 submissions as part of its consultation process earlier in the year and in July it reduced the size of the wind zone to exclude the central coast town of Norah Head following fierce community backlash. The community in Port Stephens say their concerns about the wind turbine project potentially destroying the natural environment are being ignored. Mr Dutton says residents and business owners in Shoal Bay are being treated like second-class citizens over the lack of consultation over the government's renewable wind project. “The consultation process just hasn’t been up to scratch, and I think this is another project where Chris Bowen has misread the community, is acting against the best interest of this region,” Mr Dutton said on Wednesday. “This project needs to be put on hold until a proper consultation process can be undertaken.” The government is pushing ahead with the Hunter Coast Offshore Wind Project which is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs and the windfarm is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than four million homes.
