Judo exponent Siti Nor Aisyah Shahabuddin finally earned a breakthrough in her fourth SEA Games appearance.

The 24-year-old earned a morale boosting start for the team with their first podium on the opening day of judo competition.She beat Zhen Yuxuan of Singapore and Pyaw Phyo Swe Zin of Myanmar but lost to Haruka Yasumatsu of Cambodia and Nanong Supattra of Thailand.

The Johor-born exponent was the only Malaysian to win a medal from judo with Haykal Edi Sutejo and Kamini Sri Segaran failing to clear their respective quarter-final hurdles. Kamini, who represented the country at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year, also exited the competition after losing the repechage for bronze to Nguyen Nhi That of Vietnam in the women’s below 57kg category.

Amir was a bronze medallist in Hanoi and he also snatched bronze at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games last year.
