Police allege Sione Kula stole a debit card belonging to an aged care resident before using it to pay for food, clothing, cigarettes, streaming services and public transport.
An aged care worker has been arrested after allegedly stealing an elderly resident's debit card after his death to fund his own lifestyle.
Sione Kula was working at an aged care home in Brighton-Le-Sands, where he cared for a 73-year-old man before his death in August. His grieving family then reported the man's debit card had been stolen and used fraudulently after he died, prompting a police investigation. Mr Kula was arrested by detectives early this morning at his Punchbowl home before being charged with larceny and dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
Police will allege the 28-year-old stole the elderly man's debit card while working as his carer, using it to pay for food, clothing, cigarettes, streaming services and public transport.He will stay behind bars until his next court appearance on April 13.Investigations continue and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
