“It’s mental, and I completely lost my swagger this year,” Huberdeau explained. “You can just tell, you have no confidence in the way you play, it’s hard. You’re just trying to be out there and help your team win and you can’t really do it.
He was happy in Florida. A star with a Panthers team that was on the rise after years of mediocrity. It was the only NHL home he’d ever known, and after a career year there was no reason to believe he was suddenly going to have the rug pulled out from under him and he’d be flipped to the Flames in a deal that sent Matthew Tkachuk the other way.Article content
“I know it was going to be a change and an adjustment, but of course I didn’t think it was going to be this hard,” Huberdeau said. “I think I’ve just got to put that year behind me and focus on the next one. Have a good summer and come back next year and be ready.
