The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will scrutinize the backgrounds of candidates running in the May 2025 midterm elections. AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. stated that the military will leverage intelligence operations to assess candidates and report any red flags to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). The AFP is also addressing concerns regarding private armed groups, 'peace spoilers,' and other potential threats. This initiative is conducted in collaboration with the Comelec and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Brawner said the AFP is also addressing concerns surrounding private armed groups, “peace spoilers,” and other “threats.” He said the initiative is conducted in coordination with the Comelec and the Philippines National Police and focuses on identifying potential security threats arising from foreign interference.
The AFP chief also emphasized the elections offer an opportunity for citizens to voice their concerns through their votes, encouraging them to choose leaders who will work to solve social problems.
