The Armed Forces of the Philippines-Central Command (AFP-CentCom) is not inclined to recommend to President Duterte that Negros Oriental be placed under martial law amid the spate of killings blamed on the New Peoples' Army (NPA).

“From our level, I don’t think at this time we need to implement martial law. The situation is still manageable. It depends on the President if he really wants to impose it but right now, we’re not inclined actually to recommend martial law,” Clement said. “I think at this time, it’s not happening there. There are incidents of killings but it’s within a manageable level,” he added.

Police figures show 21 individuals were killed from July 18 to 28 across seven towns in Negros Oriental.
