Western Bulldogs young gun Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has taken an emphatic stand against racism, replicating an iconic gesture after booting the first goal of his side's clash with the Brisbane Lions. 9News
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan of the Western Bulldogs points to his skin as he celebrates kicking a goal against the Brisbane Lions. He then broke down in tears while reflecting on his Winmar gesture in an on-field interview."Obviously what happened last weekend was a pretty hard time. So I was just going out there and proving a point that I'm just a boy trying to play some football, same as the other Indigenous boys.
A photograph of the moment taken by Wayne Ludbey is etched in Australian sports and cultural folklore. "Racism of any kind does not belong in our game, nor in our society. We cannot tolerate it," the Bulldogs said in a statement on Sunday."Comments like these are extremely upsetting and cause significant hurt and harm for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They are said to intentionally harm, and we continue to be confronted by them as a community.
"We will continue to make a stand and call out this behaviour, and use our voice to further educate our fans and the wider community.
