AFL legend Neil Balme has revealed he had been battling epilepsy without knowing.
The 71-year-old former Richmond star was unaware he had the condition until he was diagnosed in 2020 following a seizure while sleeping in bed next to his wife.
Since the first seizure, Balme has dropped about 20 kilograms and is back to the weight he would play at during his VFL career. After the diagnosis, Balme’s children told him that before they knew what he was dealing with he had been “a bit insular” leading up to the seizure.
