One of the Big Bash League's biggest stars has threatened to walk out on the competition after Cricket Australia announced it was abandoning its ODI series against Afghanistan.
The exit of the Afghani leg spinner, who is the best T20 bowler in the world and one of the BBL’s brightest stars, could undermine the competition’s attraction.
“This decision follows the recent announcement by the Taliban of further restrictions on women’s and girls’ education and employment opportunities and their ability to access parks and gyms,” a statement read. “The decision to withdraw from playing the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan is unfair and unexpected and will have a negative impact on the development and growth of cricket in Afghanistan as well as affect the love and passion of the Afghan nation for the game.”
“If playing vs Afghanistan is so uncomfortable for Australia then I wouldn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable with my presence in the BBL. Therefore, I will be strongly considering my future in that competition.” Australia last played Afghanistan during the T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval. Picture: Matt Loxton
