“I tried to reach Italy but I was arrested along with other people by the Turkish police and taken to a prison camp. I remained there for about two months, until the earthquake hit,” he was quoted as saying.He said the centre was damaged by the powerful earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing tens of thousands of people and reducing cities and towns to rubble.
The huge earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria last month affected several detention centres, it said in a recent report.
