Algoma District School Board introduces new phase of its Sports Academy, building on successful Hockey Canada Skills Academy
The Algoma District School Board announced a new phase of its Sports Academy at its regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday.
Building on the success of ADSB's Hockey Canada Skills Academy , this is the next phase of ADSB Sports Academies, providing learning environments in which students can thrive academically, socially and physically. The ultimate goal of ADSB’s F.I.T. Academy is to develop life skills and produce confident, well-rounded students who make a lasting commitment to healthy, active living and lifelong learning.
The F.I.T. Academy is unique to Algoma District. While the program is housed at White Pines and students will be engaged in the White Pines school community, F.I.T. Academy will access sport-specific venues including the John Rhodes Community Centre for gymnastics, dance and swimming and Hiawatha Highlands for cross-country skiing.
F.I.T. Academy students will be prepared to give back to the community as leaders and coaches as the program will enhance their own leadership, mentoring and teaching/coaching skills. They will also have opportunities to showcase their skills during performance and demonstration-based events.
