The Pasig City local government announced on Tuesday, Jan. 25, that it has seen a huge decrease in its active COVID-19 cases after tallying 479 active cases on Jan. 24, from 3,008 cases on Jan. 23.
In a post on its official Facebook page, the local government unit said that the drastic decrease was due to the application of the shorter quarantine and isolation period for symptomatic and asymptomatic cases. On Jan. 13, the Department of Health released Memorandum 2022-0013 which updated the guidelines on the quarantine and isolation of COVID-19 infected individuals following the sudden surge in COVID-19 infections due to the more contagious Omicron and Delta variants.
The isolation period for COVID-19 cases of those who are fully vaccinated without symptoms or with mild symptoms has been reduced to seven days from 10 days under the revised guidelines. Quarantine period for fully vaccinated close contacts who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms has been reduced to five days from seven days.
However, the 10-day isolation period for the partially vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals, including healthcare workers, will still be observed. The memorandun added that the RT-PCR testing for close contacts of confirmed cases who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms is now optional.
