ACEN ramps up circularity efforts with e-waste management initiative

ACEN, through ACEN Shared Services, has taken a significant step toward responsible e-waste management by turning over its e-waste to Integrated Waste Management, a subsidiary of AC Logistics.

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, ACEN, through ACEN Shared Services , has taken a significant step toward responsible electronic waste management by turning over its e-waste to Integrated Waste Management , a subsidiary of AC Logistics.

A first in the Ayala group, this initiative is part of ACEN’s broader circularity efforts aimed at reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact. IWM, through its partnership with Zolo Philippines, which specializes in sustainable IT assets processing, will ensure that the e-waste procured from ACEN will be repaid, reused, refurbished, recycled, or resold, reducing to a minimum the amount of e-waste being disposed of and carbon emissions generated. ACEN’s e-waste that it turned over included used computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, and printers. E-waste has emerged as a critical global concern in today’s digitally driven society, posing substantial environmental and health dangers. The Philippines is listed among the top e-waste generators in Southeast Asia by the Global E-waste Monitor 2024, next to Indonesia and Thailand. The monitor said Filipinos generated a total of 537 million kilograms of e-waste in 2022 or close to 5 kilos of e-waste per person. Zeeshan Pervez, president of ACES, said: “Our circularity efforts are rooted in the belief that we must rethink how we manage resources. By transforming our e-waste into reusable and recyclable materials, we not only reduce our environmental footprint but also create opportunities for sustainable development. This is one of many ways ACEN is integrating sustainability into our operations and ensuring a positive impact on the planet for future generations.” Joseph Anthony Quesada, head of commercials at IWM, said: “A significant amount of value is lost when electronics and electrical equipment are not properly managed at the end of their use. Through this partnership with ACEN, we can ensure that these assets are given new life by being redirected into sustainable, circular value streams. Our goal is to make this a long-term initiative with ACEN, driving positive impact for both the environment and the business.” This initiative solidifies ACEN’s position as a leading renewable energy company in the Philippines and Asia Pacific, demonstrating a tangible commitment to sustainability beyond clean energy generation. By embedding circularity into its core operations, ACEN is not only tackling the global e-waste crisis but also setting a powerful example for the industry.
