Lawyers of respondents on Friday questioned why the Office Solicitor General (OSG) was representing the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in the sedition complaint filed against Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Reobredo and 35 others over their alleged involvement in the “Ang Totoong Narcolist” viral videos.

Meanwhile, Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Olivia Torrevillas who chairs the panel, gave the lawyers of respondents until August 16 to file motions questioning the authority of the OSG to represent the PNP-CIDG.Following the hearing, former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay, who is also one of the respondents in the complaint, recounted that his office had never participated in any preliminary investigation in any criminal case before the DOJ.
“Mawawala yung independence ng opisina na yon kung sa level palang ng imbestigasyon ay nakikialam na sila dahil natatali na yung kamay na yon ,” he added.Citing Administrative Order No. 292, she told reporters that the OSG: “May act and represent the Republic and/or the people before any court, tribunal, body or commission in any matter, action or proceeding which, in his opinion, affects the welfare of the people as the ends of justice may require.
Following the preliminary investigation, the DOJ filed charges against Lim and his co-accused for drug charges. “As averred by Mr. Advincula, he was engaged by the respondents to spread lies against the President, his family and close associate, making them to appear as illegal trade protectors and how they earned staggering amounts of money,” read the PNP-CIDG complaint.
