Media network ABS-CBN Corporation reiterated before the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday, May 18, its plea for a temporary restraining order (TRO) that would allow the immediate resumption of its television and radio broadcast.
In an urgent motion for TRO, ABS-CBN pressed for the lifting of the cease and desist order issued by the National Telecommunications Commission on May 5 that forced it to go off air on that same day.
The television firm’s 1995 congressional franchise expired on May 4. The franchise of its subsidiary, ABS-CBN Convergence, had expired earlier last March 17. It said it has been losing about P35 million daily in advertising revenues since its operations stopped last May 5. It pointed out that it had paid to the government more than P70.5 billion in taxes from 2003 to 2020.
