KUCHING, July 8 — Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg today urged businessmen from Peninsular Malaysia and outside the country to invest in the state to take advantage of its lowest electricity tariffs in the region.“We are now focusing on the production of energy where we can determine our tariffs,” he said at the opening ceremony of the 77th annual general meeting of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia here.
He said he believes that when the tariffs are too high, investors will not come because it will add extra costs to the production. “But if the tariffs are reasonable, investors will come,” he said, stressing that Sarawak has the lowest in the region in terms of tariffs.“We have Bakun, Murum, Batang dams and the soon-to-be-completed Baleh dam to generate more than enough energy for the industries,” he added.“We would also like to see those in the construction industry look into the possibility of using solar panels in their architectural designs,” he said.
