PETALING JAYA: The disappointment on the faces of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik said it all.
The shuttlers admitted that they had handed the China Open title on a silver platter to their opponents Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang by dishing out a lacklustre show in the men’s doubles final at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou yesterday.
World No. 6 Aaron-Wooi Yik were gutted as they had a brilliant run in the tournament that included a straight-game victory over newly-crowned world champions Seo Seung-jae-Kang Min-hyuk of South Korea in the last four on Saturday. Aaron did give credit to the power display of Weikeng-Wang Chang in front of their crowd but did not hide his disappointment of letting slip another chance away.
“Playing in front of their own crowd, they were more confident and had the advantage. It was another opportunity for us to win our first tour title but we couldn’t get it.
