Russia calls for the UN Security Council to investigate the September explosions on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, saying it has 'no trust' in probes being carried out by Western nations.

abc.net.au/news/russia-clashes-with-west-over-nord-stream-investigation/102011038Russia has clashed with the United States and other Western nations over the Kremlin's call for a UN investigation of last September's sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines from Russia to Western Europe.

Russia's UN ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told the UN Security Council that Moscow had "no trust" in the separate investigations being carried out by Denmark, Sweden and Germany, but it did "fully trust" UN secretary-general António Guterres to establish an independent international investigation of the explosions.

"As the world unites this week to call for a just and secure peace in Ukraine consistent with the UN charter, Russia desperately wants to change the subject." Security Council experts held closed consultations on Monday on the proposed resolution and council diplomats said there was opposition to it.

‘Need to do better’: ASIO ‘shrugging its shoulders’ at security camera breach‘Need to do better’: ASIO ‘shrugging its shoulders’ at security camera breachSky News host Sharri Markson has hit out at ASIO’s attitude and “shrugging of shoulders” regarding the Chinese security camera breach, claiming it is leaving Australia vulnerable to its enemies. Ms Markson said the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation is apparently “very sensitive to criticism” after complaining about comments made by the Sky News host last week on Paul Murray Live, where she pointed out there was no over-arching body to ensure Australia is not vulnerable. ASIO claimed Ms Markson’s comments were “factually incorrect” and noted that the security organisation does not have a cyber security mandate. “Now, this is pretty extraordinary, ASIO says cyber security isn't in its remit – they’re kidding,” she said. “ASIO's top priority, according to their own website, is counter-espionage and foreign interference.” Ms Markson said if cyber security is not ASIO's remit, “then their remit needs a rethink”. “ASIO sending an email objecting to criticism and asking for a correction is not going to make Australia a safer place,” she added. “They need to do better. James Paterson is right – he has exposed a flaw in our national security where no agency is taking responsibility, yet, they all have a sophisticated understanding of the threats posed to us.”

‘Digital identity providers’ could play major role in strengthening cyber security‘Digital identity providers’ could play major role in strengthening cyber securityDigital identity providers could play a major role in strengthening cyber security for Australians, according to Manager of Opposition Business Paul Fletcher. Businesses will now be required to submit cyber security risk reports to government agencies once a year in response to the recent Medibank and Optus security breaches. “The underlying problem with hacking of businesses is that businesses store a lot of your personal information – name, address, driver’s license,” Mr Fletcher told Sky News Australia. “If instead, we could establish our identity digitally where each of us had a so-called trusted digital identity provider. “One of the advantages of that system would be, in this case, Telstra or Optus or the bank would not keep a whole lot of detailed personal information about you or me – it would have received the digital certificate that would simply verify I was who I was claiming to be.”
