IMPHAL, India - At least nine people were shot dead in the remote north-east Indian state of Manipur, officials said on Wednesday – the latest incident in weeks ofManipur saw days of deadly clashes in May, prompted by a dispute over access to government jobs and other perks.
Another nine people were injured in a separate attack on Monday in the same village, according to the police. This also stoked long-held fears among the Kuki that the Meitei might also be allowed to acquire land in areas currently reserved for them and other tribal groups.
