Nationals Leader David Littleproud says he is in support of a national firearms register following the deaths of two Queensland police officers by gunmen last week.

“I think it’s important that we do look through this – the lens of being able to share the information, that’ll empower our officers to know the situations that they’re going into,” he told Sky News Australia.

Queensland Police Union CEO Ian Leavers has been “eminently sensible” on this issue, Mr Littleproud said. “I think a pragmatic approach is one in which we’d support and I think Ian Leavers has led this and led this sensibly.”
