GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — Eight cities and seven towns in this province garnered Seal of Good Local Governance 2024 awards.The cities are Bacoor, Carmona, Cavite City, Dasmariñas, Imus, General Trias, Trece Martires and Tagaytay, while the towns include Alfonso, GMA, Indang, Magallanes, Maragondon, Mendez and Rosario.
This marked the eighth consecutive year for the City of Carmona to win the award, while the City of General Trias under the leadership of Mayor Luis Ferrer IV pulled off a grand slam of sort. As for Rosario town, it was its fifth time to get an award.Mayor Pecto Fidel of Indang expressed his gratitude for the SGLG award, saying 'before I left my term, we were given the SGLG award with the help of the staff of our town and the barangay. We really improved to pass its qualifications.'Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua said cited the city hall's employees and staff for the city's first SGLG award.'It is a great honor that we received because for the first time in our history, Cavite City was included as an SGLG Awardee,' said Chua in an interview.'This proves the skill and talent of our government. The result of the efforts and cooperation of every employee of our city government. Again, we have proved that Cavite City is one of the best local government units in the whole country,' added Chua.The DILG's SGLG award uses standards and criteria that promote good governance, transparency, and effective and efficient public services.The SGLG award symbolizes the locality's integrity and good performance through continuing governance reform and sustained local development, a progressive assessment system adopted by the DILG to give distinction to remarkable local government performance across several areas.Among the core areas for assessment of component cities and 1st to 3rd class municipalities are their financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, including peace and order.Also considered are business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, tourism promotion and development, and cultural heritage promotion and conservation.
