The Ministry of Education (MOE) reports that over 8,000 SPM 2024 candidates have missed all written exam papers. The MOE has implemented a number of measures to address this issue, including daily student attendance monitoring and the activation of a task force to intervene in cases of at-risk students.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) has reported that 8,076 SPM 2024 candidates have not appeared for any of the written examination papers as of February 6th. According to a written response published on the official Parliament website, out of the total number, 6,231 are candidates from MOE schools.
The ministry stated that based on an analysis of the School Attendance Management Application during the Examinations, some of the primary reasons for candidates' absence during the 2024 SPM were work commitments, family issues, health problems, death, and emigration. The MOE has implemented several measures, including monitoring student attendance at school daily through the Student Attendance System (eKehadiran) within the Student Database Application (APDM), to facilitate schools in carrying out interventions. Additionally, the MOE has activated the SPM Dropout Risk Student Intervention Task Force at all levels and monitors the status of at-risk students through a dashboard to ensure candidate attendance in the SPM examinations and optimize appropriate intervention actions. Furthermore, the MOE has conducted early detection of at-risk students in Form 4 to ensure their presence in the 2025 SPM examinations. Along with these measures, the MOE has also been actively implementing focused activities such as the Caring Visit Program, parent consultation sessions, Parent-Teacher Association collaboration, and involvement of parents, communities, and the private sector. The joint effort demonstrates the optimal commitment from all parties involved
