In a statement, Tasmania Police said the search and rescue team "responded to a distress signal from a spot beacon located on the Crossing River in the Southwest National Park" at about 11am on Wednesday. "The Westpac rescue helicopter responded and winched a crew to the scene in a steep river valley," police said.
There, rescuers "located a well-equipped party of five from interstate who were pack rafting in the area".
