Interact with Disney characters and watch live shows inspired by films such as Frozen.
The ship, named the Disney Adventure, will have three- and four-night voyages that set sail from Marina Bay Cruise Centre. There are seven themed areas on board, such as an open-air performance venue designed with adventure-filled Disney narratives like The Jungle Book and Moana in mind.
Unlike the Disney Adventure, the Disney Wish makes two stops where passengers can disembark – the Bahamas’ capital city Nassau and Disney’s private island Castaway Cay. The Key to the World card works for payments made on the ship and on Disney’s private island Castaway Cay. ST PHOTO: SARAH STANLEY In Orlando, the Disney mania is on another level. More than a handful of passengers I speak to on the Disney Wish tell me that they have been on the cruise three to four times, both on their own and with their children or grandchildren.
The Marvel-inspired restaurant Worlds of Marvel features Ant-Man and the Wasp in its dining experience. Try all the food offerings, which come with a delicious side of personalised service
So, on the four-night sail on the Disney Wish, I have dinner at about 8pm every night, rotating between the three themed restaurants and repeating one. The portions are manageable, but after a few decadent meals, I cut back on ordering too much for fear of bursting at my seams. Those with food allergies or dietary preferences can indicate them in the online form that has to be filled up before setting sail.
My servers, Ashley and Jakie, not only address me by name, but also offer excellent food suggestions and check in periodically over dinner to make sure everything is up to par. Aside from scheduled appearances, which happen almost every other hour and can be tracked via the app, many of the characters also turn up at other activities like parties and game shows, and at kids’ clubs too.
Neither bat an eyelid nor break character when they reply. It certainly adds to the realness of it all. For example, during The Little Mermaid show on the Disney Wish, projections of light refracting on water are cast on the theatre’s walls, which makes the space feel like it is submerged underwater. And for Aladdin, the rousing finale song and dance number is made more electrifying with pyrotechnics on stage.
Upon checking into the club, each child will receive an Oceaneer band, which contains a radio frequency identification chip that tracks his or her location within the premises at all times. Edge is a recreational lounge for those aged 11 to 14, with video games, scavenger hunts and other curated activities, while Vibe is a casual hang-out for teens aged 14 to 17 to chill, watch movies and listen to music.
The Disney Wish has adults-only lounges such as Nightingale’s, a dreamy piano bar inspired by the Disney classic Cinderella, and the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge, which allows families in by day before turning into an adults-exclusive space by night.
