6 months jail, RM100,000 fine for UK citizens over international scam syndicate FMTNews
Last month, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission busted a syndicate operating in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, targeting victims from the United Kingdom and Australia.
Both accused – Lloyd George Bedwell, 48, and Roger Hoi, 46 – pleaded guilty to two charges of cheating a pair of Austrian nationals at the Butterworth sessions court, Kosmo reported.Sessions court judge, Justice Zulhazmi Abdullah ordered the duo to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest on Feb 21.
They deceived the victims into depositing A$8,991.92 and A$8,573 into a RHB Bank Berhad account belonging to MB International Sdn Bhd. Deputy public prosecutors Ahmad Akram Gharib, Noor Azura Zulkifli and Afiqa Liyana Rozman prosecuted. Bedwell and Hoi were represented by Ashok Athimulan and Muniandy Vestanathan.
