PRO-Davao announces deployment of 6,000 police personnel for May 2025 elections. Gun ban to be implemented nationwide on January 12, 2025.
The Police Regional Office- Davao Region (PRO- Davao ) will deploy 6,000 police personnel for the upcoming local and national elections scheduled for May 12, 2025. PRO- Davao spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey announced that the deployable personnel will reach 6,009. Thousands of personnel will be augmented across the region starting January 12, awaiting the exact number of organizations offering their services during the elections.
PRO-Davao has already reassigned police officers with relatives running for the elections, as per guidelines from the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Dela Rey emphasized that reassignments are regular practice and require Comelec approval. The Philippine National Police (PNP) will implement a nationwide gun ban on January 12 to ensure peace and order during the election period. The ban prohibits civilians, private citizens, and some government officials from carrying firearms outside their residences. Authorized individuals, including law enforcement officers, military personnel, and those with permits or exemptions, are excluded
