Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Vargas Jr. honors Corporal Remotigue for his bravery during a combat operation against the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group.
LIEUTENANT Colonel Rolando Vargas, Jr., 53rd Infantry “MATAPAT” Battalion (53IB) commander, on Saturday, December 28, 2024, paid tribute to Corporal Remotigue, who is currently under the care of the 1st Infantry Division (1ID) Station Hospital in Camp Major Cesar Sang-an in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. Vargas said Remotigue, an infantry soldier was wounded during a fierce gun battle against the Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group in Lanao del Sur in February 2024.
Formerly a member of the 44IB, Remotigue, now proudly serves in the 53IB. “His bravery and sacrifice during the intense combat operation serve as a shining example of the unwavering commitment of the MATAPAT Battalion to the nation's security” Vargas said in a statement. “Despite his injuries, Corporal Remotigue's dedication to his comrades and the mission is a source of inspiration for all the soldiers in the unit,” he added. He said Remotigue is currently recovering at the 1ID Station Hospital and continues to receive the necessary medical care and support. In recognition of his courage, Vargas expressed deep pride and gratitude, stating, 'Corporal Remotigue's actions exemplify the valor and selflessness that define the soldiers of the MATAPAT Battalion. We stand by him during his recovery and are deeply grateful for his service to the nation.' He said the 53IB remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the well-being of all its soldiers, especially those wounded in the line of duty.
