Nurses college issues 5-month suspension for Victoria nurse for falsifying medical record
, the BCCNM says in July 2020 Edgardo Santiago did not adequately assess a patient with a significant medical history and current symptoms of concern.
The consent agreement says Santiago observed the patient, asked colleagues what they had observed, and reviewed charting from previous shifts. The nurse then falsified a medical record by writing he had conducted a “fulsome assessment” which had not been done.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email. The college says Santiago has voluntarily agreed to a five-month suspension and he must complete remedial education on ethics and responsibility, medications, documentation, patient relations, and critical thinking, create a learning plan, and meet with a BCCNM practice consultant.
When he returns to work his first five assessments will be supervised and he will meet with a supervisor to discuss an ongoing learning plan for six months. He will also be subject to random documentation audits.
