A recent survey reveals that a significant portion of Filipinos favor impeaching Vice President Sara Duterte, citing concerns over spending of confidential funds.
Four in 10 Filipinos agree that Vice President Sara Duterte should be impeached, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from December 12 to 18, 2024. Stratbase Research and Intelligence, which commissioned the survey, shared the findings that 41% of Filipinos support her impeachment, 35% oppose it, and 19% are undecided. Agreement with Duterte’s impeachment is highest in Balance Luzon at 50%, and lowest in Mindanao, her home region, where 22% agree and 56% disagree.
The Visayas had the highest proportion of undecided respondents at 24%. The survey was conducted among 2,160 adult respondents with a +/-2 margin of error. The survey also found that 46% of Filipinos believe that unexplained spending of confidential and intelligence funds by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education may be the best basis to impeach Duterte. On December 2, civil society groups filed an impeachment complaint against the Vice President, followed by two more complaints on December 4 and December 19
