BACOLOD CITY – Three-hundred ninety-two families composed of 1,220 individuals were displaced by flood caused by heavy rain from localized thunderstorms and the shearline in nine areas in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Jan. 8.The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that 354 families or 1,129 persons are staying inside evacuation centers. Thirty-eight families or 91 individuals sought refuge outside evacuation centers.
Flooded areas were portions of Villa Sagrado in Barangay Burgos, portions of Barangay Caduhaan , Purok Ubos, Hacienda Bayabas, Hacienda Carmen, and Troso Bridge Area in Barangay Daga, portions of Purok Lag-asan, Barangay Tinampa-an, portions of Villa Luisa, Barangay Luna, portions of Barangay Mabini , and portions of Barangay Cabahug. The CDRRMO said that several evacuees have started returning to their homes on Thursday, Jan. 9, after water subsided.
Due to heavy rainfall and risk of flooding, classes on all levels in public and private schools in the city were suspended on Jan. 8 and 9.
