TWENTY-FIVE loose firearms and two grenades were surrendered by unlicensed gun owners amid the sustained campaign of the 53rd Infantry Battalion in coordination with local government units in Zamboanga del Sur, the military said Thursday, December 11, 2024.Brigadier General Elmer Suderio, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said the firearms were surrendered on Wednesday, December 11, by residents of Tarakan village, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.
“Continuous engagement with local stakeholders has fostered a climate of trust and cooperation between the military and the local population,” the 53IB added.The surrendered firearms were formally turned over during a ceremony attended by Zamboanga del Sur Governor Victor Yu and Suderio.The surrender of the loose firearms highlights the success of the sustainment operations conducted by the 53IB in coordination with local government units throughout the province of Zamboanga del Sur.
