Lagdameo highlighted the significance of their surrender as a step towards ending the local communist armed conflict and reintegrating former rebels into mainstream society. This event comes as the NPA's strength has significantly declined, with their numbers dropping from 2,200 in 2023 to 1,111 in 2024. The former rebels received various forms of support, including food packs, kitchen kits, financial assistance, and enrollment in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
MANILA — Special Assistant to the President, Anton Lagdameo Jr., welcomed a total of 232 leaders and members of the New People’s Army who voluntarily surrendered and are set to undergo a reintegration program in Davao de Oro on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
“Hindi lang ito tungkol sa pagsuko ng armas, kundi isang panibagong simula, isang bagong pag-asa para sa mga handang magbagong-buhay,” Lagdameo said during his speech. Lagdameo expressed optimism that this event would inspire other insurgents to follow suit, encouraging them to seize the opportunity for change.
