The updated GR Yaris arrives at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show with a notable addition: an automatic transmission option. Alongside this, it boasts a more powerful engine and enhanced all-wheel drive system.
The facelifted GR Yaris has made its debut at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), showcasing a new automatic transmission option. This marks a significant change for the rally-inspired hatchback, which previously only offered a manual transmission. While official Malaysian-market details remain unconfirmed, the GR Yaris facelift boasts an upgraded 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 304 PS and 400 Nm of torque.
This represents a boost of 32 PS and 30 Nm compared to the pre-facelift model. Power is channeled to all four wheels through the GR-Four all-wheel driveline, which now features variable torque distribution within drive modes. Track Mode dynamically adjusts the torque split between 60:40 and 30:70 depending on the car's cornering phase, while Gravel Mode defaults to a 53:47 split and adapts based on driver input, vehicle behavior, and road conditions. The GR Yaris facelift also incorporates structural reinforcements, including increased fastening bolts on suspension dampers to minimize alignment shifts during cornering, higher spot welding points, and expanded structural adhesive usage
