While the federal funding does allow for rebuilding public infrastructure that would increase its ability to withstand floods, as much as a 15-per-cent lift to rebuild beyond what existed, it does not address the huge costs the province and its communities, including First Nations, face to increase climate resilience.
The community of Merritt, an Interior community whose entire population of 7,100 was ordered evacuated during the flooding, has put togetherBlair acknowledged there was a great need to beef up the resiliency of infrastructure to increase protection from the effects of climate change that is already hitting communities.
