The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be sending a total of 182 of its top athletes to participate in the biennial World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) that will be held this year in China.
PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said that the 182 male and female policemen-athletes will be participating in 19 games that include basketball, volleyball, badminton, track and field, golf, swimming, cycling, decathlon and triathlon and martial arts sports like judo and taekwondo.
“It is anticipated that athletes from over 70 countries will join to compete in different sporting events,” said Banac. The WPFG is a biennial athletic event open to active and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel throughout the world, according to its official website. It is considered as the second-largest multi-sport event in the world behind the Summer Olympic Games and has been held every two years since 1985.
Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, PNP deputy chief for Operations, said the WPFG will be held from August 8 to 19 Western China’s mega-city Chengdu.“The exposure to this prestigious event that the PNP can get is a good opportunity to enhance its image and promote rapport among our foreign counterparts not only in the field of law enforcement service but also in sports,” said Gamboa.Related Posts
