Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah berkata, larangan khusus mengenai penjualan ikan buntal sudah ditetapkan seperti mana mengikut Akta Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia 1972.
Menurut beliau, sebarang makanan yang mengdungi racun dan berbahaya untuk kesihatan tidak boleh dijual.
“Oleh itu, ikan buntal yang mengandungi toksin berbahaya tidak dibenarkan dijual,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan, hari ini. Noor Hisham berkata, Kementerian Kesihatan melalui Bahagian Keselamatan dan Kualiti Makanan sudah menyediakan pelbagai bahan pendidikan sebagai usaha untuk meningkatkan kesedaran mengenai toksin berbahaya terkandung di dalam ikan buntal.
