About 120 participants who ate mixed seafoods experienced stomach aches during the Purok Awarding 2024 in the Municipality of Minglanilla on Monday, December 16, 2024. This followed an official statement released by the local government in response to reports of gastroenteritis or stomach pains among attendees. Atty.
Junrie Bragat, Municipal Administrator of Minglanilla, stated that around 1,000 people participated in the Purok Awarding ceremony to recognize the exemplary management of their puroks. 'We immediately created a committee from the Office of the Mayor, Rural Health Unit, and other departments to investigate,' according to the municipal statement. Based on the incident, the stomach pains experienced by participants were attributed to the allegedly contaminated supply of shellfish used in the mixed-seafoods served during the event. Bragat mentioned that those affected have already received medical treatment and are reportedly recovering well, with no hospital admissions reported. Consequently, the municipality is continuing its investigation into the source of the contaminated food supply. In case any culprit is identified, appropriate legal action will be taken. 'We are also constantly communicating with the food supplier about the matter for the reason that food borne may be the proximate cause of this incident wherein the supplier was sternly warned in the strongest terms that this matter will be dealt with very seriously,” the municipal statement concluded
