11 villages in Sulu town declared gun-free

ELEVEN of the 41 villages in Parang, a fourth-class town in Sulu, have been officially declared gun-free and peace-centered communities, the military said on Saturday, January 25, 2025.The declaration comes as the government’s campaign against loose firearms is gaining ground in a province where owning a gun is considered a status symbol.

The 11ID further stated that the declaration is part of its ongoing campaign aimed at eradicating the proliferation of loose firearms in Sulu, promoting safety and security across communities.Brigadier General Mario Jacinto, commander of the 1101st Infantry Brigade, emphasized in a message the importance of unity in sustaining peace in the province of Sulu.“This achievement reflects the collective resolve of the people of Parang to create a safe and harmonious environment.
