That funding includes an immediate, unconditional $2-billion Canada Health Transfer top-up to address immediate pressures and needs, especially in pediatric hospitals and emergency rooms, and long wait times for surgeries. The premiers have long pushed for the federal government to boost its share of funding through the transfer from the existing 22 per cent to 35 per cent of health-care costs and to increase that amount by six per cent annually following the initial hike.
“We’re spending a significant amount on health care and will continue to spend more and more on health care,” Houston said. Houston said the bilateral agreement is a focus on access to primary care and issues that matter to Nova Scotians.Houston said the additional funding is intended as an incremental investment in the delivery of health care.
