More employment opportunities opened for Filipinos abroad as Canada announced on Wednesday that 1,000 nurses were needed in one of its provinces.
According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras”, Saskatchewan Health Minister Paul Merriman said those who would be hired would be given an initial salary of around P150,000.“It’s lifestyle choices and those choices that they can have to be able to have that work-life balance which is very good in Saskatchewan,” Merriman said.
“We want to provide them with an option and an opportunity. With all that they’re being sought-after by other countries,” he added. Twenty-one percent of the new immigrants in Canada are Filipinos, the official said. To further encourage nurses to apply, Merriman also told hired employees will have the option to bring along their family.
“We don't just recruit the worker, we recruit the family and there's an instant integration into our education system. We offer them healthcare immediately,” he said. The Saskatchewan Health Ministry is now coordinating with the Department of Migrant Workers for the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the job opportunity. Those who are interested to apply may visit the Saskatchewan government’s website: www.saskatchewan.
